Campus Cycle Week takes place once a semester to highlight the many positives of cycling to college.PresidentsRide-CCW-2017-09 The Week emphasises cycling’s benefits—from environmental and financial to general health and well-being– to Cork’s students and college staff. For college managers, the Week shows that that commuter cycling plays a positive role in relieving parking pressure, reducing land use, and minimising an institution’s overall environmental impact.

Campus Cycle Week launched under the Green Campus Forum at University College Cork in March 2017. It now reaches over 40,000 staff and students at Cork College of Commerce, Cork Institute of Technology, Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa, St John’s Central College, and University College Cork, as well as in Cork University Hospital.  The Cork Cycling Campaign have actively partnered with these institutions in running the Week, building a network of cyclists, and addressing the obstacles that cyclists face on campus.

BikesUnderSequioas-CCW-2017-09The Week’s highlights include standing banners prominently placed on the participating campuses, roundtable discussions among cyclists at each campus, bike repair workshops, and a range of fun activities.

The previous Campus Cycle Week led to starting a Bike Buddy ScMattImelda,CIT-CCW2017-09heme (at UCC), informing senior management of the high demand for bike stands, and pushing for secure and high quality cycling facilities.

The CCW takes place from 12 to 16 March. We’re looking forward to more events and greater impact than ever before!
